Milk Thistle Improves Liver Health and Detoxification

Our bodies face immense detoxification challenges in modern society. Auto exhaust, secondary cigarette smoke, alcohol, drugs, industrial solvents, pesticides, and even some of the water and food we consume are a constant burden on the organs that cleanse and detoxify our bodies.

Proper liver function is critical to healthy cholesterol metabolism and even has an influcence on the way a woman's body metabolizes estrogen.

While alcohol and diseases such as hepatitis are among the more obvious deterrents to healthy liver function, its performance can become sluggish and compromised even in those without diagnosed liver disease. Toxic build-up can lead to fatigue, headaches, poor digestion, skin problems, and even impaired immune function.

Milk thistle extract with its active component silymarin, is nature's own liver supporter and protector. Milk thistle and silymarin exert their benefits in the following ways:

Cell Protection: Directly aids liver cells by binding to the ouside of cells and blocking the entrance of certain toxins.

Boosts Antixoidant Activity: It is particularly useful for increasing production of glutathione, a powerful antioxidant produced by the body, as well as increasing the levels of other antioxidants, such as superoxide dismutase.

Cell Regeneration: Alcohol abuse, chronic hepatitis, and even commonly prescribed durgs, such as cholesterol-lowering medications and antidepressants, can injure liver cells. Silymarin has the unique ability to help regenerate damaged liver cells.

The best news is that studies show standardized milk thistle extracts are supportive of the primary treatment of liver diseases.

Another group of people benefiting from ongoing milk thistle extract treatment are chronic hepatitis B or C sufferers. While powerful antiviral and immune-stimulating drugs have become the standard in successful hepatitis C treatment, milk thislte extract provides a gentle insurance policy to stave off further liver injury and assist in the eventual return to more optimal liver function.

Use of Milk thistle extract is not just limited to those with liver disease. It may help prevent the potential liver-damaging effects of certain medications, such as acetaminophen, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDS), antidepressants, and cholesterol-lowering medications.

Loving Relationships

Creating vitality everyday also includes creating loving relationships. Unfortuntely most of us don't spend much time doing this. So often our own spouses are not treated as well as a stranger on the street, or as well as our friends.

I guess we become complacent. We unconsciously think we've already earned their love and may not need to nurture it. I think we need to start looking at our spouses as our best friends. To treat them with the respect and caring that we would a friend or even just another human being. Think about it. Do you complement your spouse before they leave the house? Do you give them a kiss and tell them you love them each day. Are you in appreciation for the coffee they made or for picking up your towel off the floor? Do you ever thank them for all they do for you every day? Do you wake up each day and wonder, "what can I do today to make my spouse happier, feel appreciated?" We must be the change we want to see in the world. And in our own world is the best place to start. What we give out, returns. Start treating your spouse, your family with how you want to be treated. See what happens.

Sometimes the best remarks come from the smallest creatures. Children know just how to get to the heart of the matter, how to make it simple. Here's a few quotes about love.

"Love is when my mommy makes coffee for my daddy and she takes a sip before giving it to him, to make sure the taste is OK."
Danny - age 7

"Love is what's in the room with you at Christmas if you stop opening presents and listen." Bobby - age 7

"If you want to learn to love better, you should start with a friend who you hate."
Nikka - age 6

"Love is when your puppy licks your face even after you left him alone all day."
Mary Ann - age 4

"When you love somebody, your eyelashes go up and down and little stars come out of you."
Karen - age 7

Author and lecturer Leo Buscaglia once talked about a contest he was asked to judge. The purpose of the contest was to find the most caring child.

The winner was a four year old child whose next door neighbor was an elderly gentleman who had recently lost his wife. Upon seeing the man cry, the little boy went into the old gentleman's yard, climbed onto his lap, and just sat there.

When his Mother asked what he had said to the neighbor, the little boy said, "Nothing, I just helped him cry."

Have A Loving Day!!!

Wellness vs. Sickness

When I first started my doctorate in Naturopathy, something didn't feel quite right to me. I felt that I would be too much acting like a Western medical practitioner. I couldn't quite put my finger on what it was that felt "uncomfortable" to me. Was it just my insecurities poking their ugly heads? What I have since discovered is that there are two kinds of industries out there, the sickness industry and the wellness industry. Where I was headed was into the sickness industry and where I wanted to go was the wellness industry. Only there weren't many models to guide me. Much has changed for me since that time so I just want to share with you the difference:

Sickness Industry - Products and services provided reactively to people with an existing disease, ranging from a common cold to existing cancerous tumors. These products and services seek to either treat the symptoms of a disease or eliminate the disease.

Wellness Industry - Products and services provided proactively to healthy people (those without an existing disease) to make them feel even healthier and look better, to slow the effects of aging, or to prevent diseases from developing in the first place.

Finally!!! i found my niche. What I truly wanted was to help in some way to PREVENT people from getting sick instead of trying to put a band-aid on it, whether that be pharmaceuticals, herbs, etc. Why suffer first? There is much we can do on so many levels to improve where we are, to enjoy our lives. Have fun, be happy, be joyous, be loving FIRST!! and LAST!!

Til next time,

NancySue
P.S. God Bless those who choose the Sickness Industry, as there is a need for both at the present time!!! However, if you consider the Law of Attraction. What we focus on expands. Wouldn't it be much easier to focus on the joy, the love, the fun, first?

Later that Same Day

Have you ever noticed how the wind feels on your face? The sound of the windchimes and how they allow you to feel calm? How getting well from being sick gives you a whole new perspective on your life? Be so ever grateful!!!
